Investing in People, Work and the Social Dimension

  • Development of human capital through the use of career ladders, performance evaluations and personal development programmes.
  • Promotion of in-house and outside training activities for the people who work in the companies, with thousands of hours of training provided each year.
  • Adoption of the Family-Friendly Company Project, with implementation of practices like telecommuting, making leaves more flexible, preferential agreements with companies that offer flexible schedules and services (pharmacies, gyms and online purchase of food products, among others).
  • Interventions to improve the workplace environment, provide easy access to vending machines and create break rooms or facilitate access to meals at fair prices.
  • Hiring of disabled persons, or offering training and vocational-technical development sessions, sometimes though protocols with different entities like APPACDM or RUMO.
  • Development of activities designed to promote health, e.g. vaccination campaigns, held seasonally, based on relevant epidemiological factors, or for workers in certain occupations.
  • Participation on committees or in working groups, e.g. the CT 164 technical committee, which is working on the NP4469-1: 2008 and NP 4469-2: 2010 Standard regarding Social Responsibility; and the Advisory Board for the Platform against Obesity;
  • Internship protocols with private social welfare institutions, (Moinhos da Juventude and Cersisa) for the purpose of hiring disabled persons.
  • Hiring incentives protocol with the government of Madeira - the "Estagiar" Programme.
  • Cooperation with universities, both scientific and others, establishing protocols for academic and/or professional internships. This cooperation occurs on a regular basis with a number of different institutions, e.g.
